Marvin Winans Jr., born on December 28, 1979 in Detroit, Michigan is surrounded by musical and business success. He is the son of Marvin Winans Sr. the leader of the famed gospel cross-over singing group “The Winans? and female gospel great Vickie Winans. Growing up he frequently heard his family’s music on the radio including his uncle and aunt Bebe and Cece Winans, one of the greatest music duos in music history. He also grew up watching and learning from his extraordinarily talented brother, Mario Winans who has become a celebrated world renowned music producer and pop artist.


Marvin at the age of 18 began to blaze his own trail as a member of Winans Phase 2, the group he founded with his 3 cousins Michael Winans Jr., Carvin Winans Jr. and Juan Winans. The group achieved tremendous success with their debut album garnishing a Grammy award nomination, selling over 250,000 records and performing in front of crowds as large as 50,000, including shows in the U.S. and Europe (Germany, Holland, London). The group also performed and was featured on several national television shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Donnie & Marie, and the Queen Latifah show. What Marvin has accomplished thus far is only the beginning.


This singer/producer/songwriter is the Founder and President/CEO of M2 Entertainment, a company that since its inception in November of 2000 has signed four producers, produced over twenty released songs, including three remixes, for five different CD’s on four different nationally distributed record labels. Marvin and M2 Entertainment have worked with artists such as Vickie Winans whose record “Bringing it all together? which they produced over 80% of the project, debuted at #1 on the billboard gospel charts. They have also worked with Damita Haddon, Primary Colors, Hezekiah Walker, The Winans and Regina Murff, and have also signed and developed several up and coming recording artists from the Detroit area.


Marvin is currently working on his debut solo album to be released by M2 Entertainment. “Being at the helm of the project gives me the ability to oversee all of the operations that come along with producing and releasing a major CD? Marvin is also sincere about his duty to write a majority of the lyrics on the album, “I believe the lyrics are the most important element of a song, my life has given me a lot to talk about and I feel creatively, I am now ready to speak." He is not embarking on this alone, he has recently gotten married to Tennessee State University graduate Monique Johnson. “I am very excited, my beautiful new bride, gives me a brand new outlook on my life and continually reminds me why I am so blessed, I have so much support from my family including Winans Phase 2, but more importantly, a go ahead from God. The concert was originally slated on July 4 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City but it has been moved to Oct. 23.

ABS-CBN’s SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon) reported that the organizers had been forced to postpone his concert due to A(H1N1).

In a taped message aired on SNN, the Senegalese-American singer-songwriter extended his apology to all his fans who already bought tickets.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, our concert has been postponed for the 23rd of October. Make sure you will come and we apologize for the changes that we have to make but remember, those tickets that were purchased are still valid for the concert,” Akon said.

He also assured his fans that they can bring the same tickets to the concert.

But the Philippine concert is not the only event that the popular R&B performer is postponing.

His concert tours to China and Malaysia were likewise postponed due to A(H1N1).

Akon became popular with the release of “Locked Up” in 2004. It was his first single from his debut album “Trouble.” His second album, “Konvicted,” earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single “Smack That.”

He was expected to sing his hits from his third album, “Freedom,” in his upcoming concert with Filipino international performer Billy Crawford as special guest.

Akon’s first show in the country was held in November 2007.
